Asylum applications and refugees from Eritrea
71,571 people from Eritrea fled in 2023 and applied for asylum in other countries, according to UNHCR data. This corresponds to approximately 1.909% of all residents. The most common destination countries have been Sudan, Uganda and Egypt. A total of only 9 percent of asylum applications have been rejected. The most successful have been the refugees in Niger and in Rwanda.
A total of 368 people fled to the United States from Eritrea. With 50 positive decisions, 90.91 percent of all new applications have been accepted. Another 5 applications were rejected, and no decisions were made on those remaining in 2023 readmore
